We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Thanks for visiting my page.

As a volunteer Coastguard search and rescue officer  I have close involvement with our excellent and professional lifeboat teams and  really appreciate first-hand what a difference the RNLI make, often averting tragedy in the most difficult conditions.  I also sadly have very personal experience of the amazing effort and dedication these volunteers provide. On Dec 16th 1990 I lost my father-in-law and his close friend at sea in their fishing boat, White Pearl.  Time and again we witnessed the crew at Shoreham Lifeboat station set out in challenging conditions to try and locate them and their craft, in the end without success.  However their efforts and support have been long remembered by family and friends and I am proud to be associated with this challenge and worthy charity.   .

You'll see our team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help us smash this goal.

The challenge: To kayak from Fort William to Inverness along the Caledonian Canal which is a distance of approximately 60 miles! We will start at Fort William on the North Atlanic and finish at Inverness on the North Sea North, taking in Loch Ness (23 miles long and up to 1.5 miles wide). We expect the challenge to take two full days.

Why: Partly as a tribute to Gavin Butcher, a volunteer crew member on the Newhaven lifeboat who lost his battle with cancer in late February and  secondly to help the RNLI raise funds to enable their volunteers  to operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The team consists of 7 crew members of the Newhaven Lifeboat and 6 friends of the Newhaven Lifeboat.
