I am Barry Lerwill and Millie is my great niece, i.e. the granddaughter of my brother, Max. Millie is 3 years old and has cystic fibrosis. I live in North Devon and have done so my entire life, which means I have not seen as much of Millie as I would have liked, because she and her family live in Buckinghamshire near my brother. However, I am very aware of Millie’s condition and the impact it has on her life and that of her family. When Max suggested I join him and his son Jonathan in raising money for the CF Trust by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro I was thrilled and had no hesitation in agreeing to do so. I have never been to Africa and I am very excited at the prospect of climbing the highest mountain (around 6,000 metres) on that continent. But of course the main point of undertaking this adventure is to raise as much as we can for the CF Trust, a very worthy charity that is so vital to the lives of cf sufferers. We have a significant challenge in front of us and we are preparing ourselves for that challenge, but we do need all the help we can get. In particular we need all the encouragement we can muster to help us in getting fit and ready and then in making every possible effort to succeed in our attempt to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. If all goes well and to plan we will be there to see the sun rise on Africa on 18 September 2013.
