We are the MS Society. We are strong enough to stop MS together.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My wife, Xanthe, has suffered from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for 14 years. Multiple sclerosis is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Around 100,000 people in the UK have MS. Unfortunately the cause(s) of the condition is unknown and it remains incurable.

As most of you will know my efforts to raise money for the MS Society has become a something of an annual event. It started just after I moved to my current home in the South Downs National Park when I took part in the "Petersfield Ups and Downs" (PUAD) charity cycle ride, run by Petersfield's Round Table (PRT). I subsequently joined PRT and last year I was joined by a fellow member of PRT (Andy Guest) when I rode the South Downs Way in a day.

This year Andy will become chairman of the PRT and, as his family has also been blighted by MS, he has elected to designate the MS Society as the chairman's charity for the year. As a result we have already roped in quite a few of PRT's membership to participate in the various events we have planned.

So far our team comprises myself (AD), Andy Guest (AG), Patrick Glithro (PG) James Tracey(JT), Mike Hansford (MH) and James Pike (JP).

We aim to raise £10K for the Multiple Sclerosis Society through a number of events. My pain/involvement starts with the London Marathon on April 21 and continues throught the year!

Here's the (filtered) list that I will be participating in:

- London Marathon (AD, AG) - Apr 21 - Completed in 04:13:23 (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/301367490)

- Richmond Park Marathon (AG, AD) - May 5 - Completed in 04:24:15 (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/308318872)

- Walk4Dreams 12 hour sponsored walk (All) - May 12 - Completed (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/311759841)

- South Downs Marathon (AD, AG) - Jun 8 - Completed 04:26:52 (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/324582814)

- The Long One Sportive (126 miles) (AG, AD, MH, JT) - Jun 29

- Lakeland Trails Marathon (AD, AG) - Jul 7

- Forest of Dean Duathlon (AD, AG) - Sep 8

- Devils Punchbowl Sportive (75 miles) (AG, AD, MH, JT) - Nov 3

And probably the GRIM (Original & Duathlon) and Hellrunner towards the end of the year.

The target represents the sum of our efforts (and associated justgiving web pages). Needless to say I will be looking for my new company, Ericsson, to add to the pot!
