Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I picked up the running bug about 5 years ago, when I was sitting bored day after day, recovering from a broken leg.
I gave myself 6 months recovery time and slowly but surely I started to run, slowly and not far at first but then building myself up to run further and faster.
As the months went by I then decided I needed to challenge myself and set myself a goal. That goal was to run a half marathon and I ran two of them! Little did I realise that soon I'd be thinking that I needed another bigger challenge. This time I decided to go for the ultimate, a full marathon. So I signed up for the Edinburgh Marathon in 2010 and completed it in 4 hours and 6 minutes. It was the most painful and exhausting experience of my life and I had a Steve Redgrave moment with a 'never again' speech!
Like Steve Redgrave though, I've foolishly taken up the challenge once more in my 40th year and decided to run the London Marathon this time! So over the last 4 months I've been out running in freezing cold temperatures, snow blizzards, heavy rain and gale force winds following a strict training regime.
I've chosen to try and raise some donations if people feel generous enough to sponsor my efforts. Having a charity to run for really helped last time when the lactic acid was burning in my calf muscles and I felt I could not run another mile.
I've chosen to try and raise some money for Pilgrims Hospice as they has been providing care and support free of charge to people with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers. They provided end of life care to someone very close to my Fiance. She regularly donates to them now and I felt I would try and help to show support of this fantastic charity.
