Story

Getting ready for the supply chain walk and its a beautiful day. Thank you all who are taking part and for all the well wishers who have send messages of good luck to the team today. What an amazing amount raised for Team Abby! Thank you ALL so much.

It is so fantastic how my team have all got behind me with this fight for Abby. For those who are friends and family or colleagues and suppliers - thank you so much for supporting.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Supply Chain Team JustGiving page.

I am Cath Fishlock and work in the Supply Chain team based in the Barnwood office.   On Friday 9th November, while sitting at my desk, I received a call asking me to bring my little girl Abby to Gloucester Royal to see doctors immediately regarding an x-ray the previous day for pains in her leg.  I had thought maybe the problem was growing pains as she's only 9 years old.

Sadly the consultant explained that afternoon that Abby had a large tumour in her thigh bone.  A biopsy confirmed a few weeks later she had a very rare bone cancer, Osteosarcoma mostly found in young teenagers during their growth spurt.

The news was devastating and Abby was straight into a gruelling schedule of chemotherapy at Bristol Children's hospital.  In March she had limb salvage surgery to remove the 9 cm tumour in her thigh and replace her thigh bone and knee with a titanian prosthesis which as a result of the latest technology in biomedical engineering, is extendable without the need for ongoing surgery as she grows.  It is fantastic as she still has so many years of growing ahead of her.

The cancer is so aggressive that Abby requires further  chemotherapy post surgery through into the summer period to ensure any rogue cells are killed off.  The hope is that the cancer does not return and I will live in hope for 5 years following her treatment before she's given the all clear.

There was so much support for Abby and her big fight against this disease that we formed TEAM ABBY and it is fantastic that the EDF Supply Chain TEAM are getting together to have the sponsored walk in aid of CLIC Sarget the charity who support Abby and our family along with her medical team in Bristol Children's Hospital.

Look at the photo's and you will see a little girl full of determination and spirit fighting hard to beat this terrible disease.  Her wish above everything else this year is to beat her cancer ... oh and to meet One Direction... well we'll see if that can be arranged too !!

Thank you so much for your support and your generous donation for this fantastic charity who do so much to help little kids like Abby by making life just that little bit easier....
