Story
In the UK today, over one million older people have not seen another person in over a month. Too many feel desperately lonely, out of touch with modern life and cut off from the rest of society. So a whole section of society is facing severe loneliness.
As joint official charities for the 2013 Virgin London Marathon, YouthNet and Age UK have teamed up with a mission in mind – bringing young people and older people together to end loneliness and isolation
Age UK has a vision of a world in which older people flourish. Each year we help transform the lives of over 5 million people by providing vital support and services and fighting discrimination, poverty and isolation. We have unrivalled expertise and a passionate belief in our cause.
YouthNet
YouthNet is the UK’s first exclusively online charity. We guide and support young people, enabling them to make informed choices, participate in society and achieve their ambitions.
Seeing first hand what a difference it made to the quality of life my grandparents had being connected in today's world, I think there can be no greater gift than to help end loneliness in a world where everyone is so connected.
