Story
On March 23rd my friends and I will be hiking up Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in the South of the UK; the twist - we'll all be wearing 5+ stone of medieval armour!
Why the armour? Well, all of us taking part in the hike are either reenactors or HMB participants (a sport of full-contact sword fighting), so we already have suits of hefty armour and a regular hike just sounded too easy!
We all voted on which chairty we wanted to support and Myeloma UK won the vote. Myeloma really is a cruel disease, and with no cure it's 5-year survival rates aren't brilliant. Myeloma UK work hard to support sufferers of this disease directly, as well as helping to fund research into better treatements - they're a charity well worth your support!
Update -
For those interested I guess I should probably mention why Myeloma UK is a charity I personally want to support.
My grandmother, Vera - a truly remarkable woman, died of Multiple Myeloma a few years ago, and her final days were not the most comfortable.
Myeloma is a difficult form of cancer to diagnose and it was only discovered that she had the disease 10 days before her death. Truth be told, I feel like she'd been taken from us long before by Alzheimer's Disease, but regardless, I still feel that this is a charty worth supporting. With better diagnostic techniques her illness could have been recognised sooner, her symptoms could have been treated and her quality of life in her final months could have been better.
