In October 2013 I'm climbing Kilimanjaro with my work team - the Manchester United Foundation. I'll be there to document the trek so on top of all the usual gear I'll have my trusty SLR camera and a video camera to film all the ups and downs for MUTV. My place on the trek is free so every penny you donate goes to the charity. 

The trek itself involves seven days on the mountain, five and a half days ascending and one and a half days coming down! At 5,895m (19,341ft) it's the tallest mountain on the African continent and the tallest freestanding mountain on the planet. I'll be climbing through five different climate zones, from the warm savannah, through wet rainforest and then up above the treeline into cold barren deserts. Temperatures will range from +25C at the base to -20 at the summit. We'll be walking 6-8hrs most days and the final day we'll be walking for 16-18 hours!

As well as the trek I'll be signing up for some extra challenges to get me fit. I've already signed up for a 10km race in July (and we all know how much I hate running) and there will be other things along the way as well plenty of practice walks and gym time.
