Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for little Ollie.  On the 1st Feb myself and 5 friends will be trekking to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.  The trek takes 7 days and we will end up on the summit, 19,431 ft above sea level.

Part of the reason for setting off on this mad adventure is to help Ollie.  Ollie goes to nursery with my son William and they are great friends.  In most respects Ollie is a normal, happy 2 year old, full of mischief and fun.  However Ollie was born 10 weeks prematurely back in July 2010 and this has resulted in him having cerebral palsy - this means that the part of the brain that sends signals to the muscles of the lower body and legs is damaged, so the leg muscles are constantly under tension.  This already means he cannot walk or stand without mobility aids, and if not treated effectively will lead to deformities of the hips, legs and feet as he grows.

However a specialist children's hospital in St Louis, America has developed an operation that has already been successfully performed on over 2000 children with Cerebral palsy called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy). This truly is a life changing operation in that it will reduce / eliminate the tension in Ollie's legs permanently, prevents or reduces deformities and would give him a good chance of learning to walk independantly.

This operation costs £60,000 and his parents are working hard to achieve this total.  So if you would like to help Ollie or just like the idea of me in pain, please sponsor me.
