Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is John McTaggart. I am delighted to have the opportunity to be taking part in a sponsored cycle from Glasgow to the great city of Belfast on March 15th and 16th 2013.

I'm taking part in this cycle to raise funds for the Oscar Knox appeal that will go towards helping him fund the immunotherapy treatment that Wee Oscar Knox desperately needs to help him fight off future attacks of neuroblastoma.

Please give what you can. I'm aware that many deserving causes are asking for your hard earned money. It is a sign of the times. I'm happy to work for your money!

Sadly, I'm not a gardener or plumber! But I'm an experienced Modern Studies teacher. If your son/daughter would like 1 hour's  tuition for the princely sum of £10 donated to this Neuroblastoma page, I'll happily come round to your house and provide that expert service (a tutor normally costs at least £25 per hour). I'll even leave you with a copy of my Higher Modern Studies textbook, which last time I looked cost £10!

If you read a wee bit more about this charity, you'll see that the participants are mostly, but not exclusively, Celtic supporters (the ride leaves from Celtic Park). I could not give a stuff which team you support, I'll help anyone, even if you do not like football! And supporters of all clubs have helped this wee guy. Football fans actually do this kind of stuff. It doesn't always make the news.

I'm doing this cycle to try and allow a wee boy to one day do all the things we take for granted.

Have you ever got grumpy because your team lost a football game? Football's great but when its placed alongside issues such as this it really doesn't matter that much. How Oscar's mum and dad must wish all they needed to worry about was stuff about football. The great Bill Shankly was so wrong when he said football is more important than life or death. Its not. But football, and all sport for that matter, has the power to bring people together to achieve things and do good. I'll enjoy my cycle; it'll be a decent challenge and I'm sure I'll enjoy the companionship of the other riders. I hope I can help you if you'll help wee Oscar.

My only caveat is that as I live in Fife, I can only do this in central Scotland. There's 20 slots, to raise £200. If you contact me, I promise I'll provide the tutorial between now and the Higher Modern Studies exam in May 2013.

Win-Win-Win! Our campaign gets the funds, your son/daughter gets a boost to their exam prospects and I get fitter through the cycle!
