We fund pioneering research to tackle bowel cancer.

Story

Last year I got to join Jonjo Heuerman on his second annual walk from Wembley to Upton Park to raise money for the Bobby Moore fund for Cancer research - a fitting cause for him, as a West Ham fan and as someone who sadly lost his grandmother to the same illness that took Bobby Moore. His response to his loss, has been incredibly positive and effective, using football as a powerful weapon against Cancer. Last year I joined him on his walk, among a minority of fans of teams other than West Ham, representing QPR. I covered the whole 25 miles in three days, and being me, I did the whole thing barefoot as well. I managed to raise over £300 thanks to generous donations from family, friends, and a lot of QPR fans.

This year Jonjo's plan is a bit different and somewhat more ambitious. He himself is going to be doing significantly more walking, while at the same time, is going to involve each of the 92 English Football League and Premier League clubs in a big tag team effort via several different routes connecting clubs that all end at Upton Park. Tag teams made up of each club's fans will be taking Captain's armbands to West Ham, and I'm taking on the role of leading QPR's tag team. I'll be meeting with my Brentford counterpart at Loftus Road at 5am on Sunday 17th Feb, and collect the armbands from Cheltenham, Oxford United, Wycombe Wanderers, Watford and Brentford there. I'll add QPR's armband to the pile and set out on a walk, barefoot again, right across London to West Ham where I will hand them over to Jonjo.

I can of course do this all by myself, but I would hope that we QPR fans have enough good will between us to provide a tag team big enough to rival Fulham's away support at least. No-one would be obliged to walk the whole way of course, keeping up pace with me is no tall order.

If you would prefer to make a less physical contribution, any donation of any size would be extremely welcome. Jonjo has succeeded in raising large sums of money that the Bobby Moore fund have found incredibly useful. Myself, I have a target somewhat less ambitious. Last year I managed to raise just over £300, so this year I would like to improve on that. If I can reach any amount over £400 would be very satisfying and make the long walk more than worthwhile.
