“I want to raise money for Help for Heroes in memory of my old football team mate, Royal Marine Richard Hollington. Rick was by far and away the best team mate you could wish for – a fighter, a leader and an all round great guy! – it was no surprise to hear he was joining the Marines. Tragically, Rick died on 20 June 2010 from wounds received whilst on operation in Afghanistan, aged just 23. Rick was the 300th service man to be killed since the war in Afghanistan began in 2001. It is scary to think how many good, young men and women have died fighting for their country, but hopefully the money we raise here will go some way to helping those who manage to survive their ordeal.”
