Event: H2H - Hanoi to HCMC, from 2 April 2013 to 30 April 2013
We work exclusively in Vietnam since 1992 to help remove barriers to education.

Story

Hi kids,

In April a group of 20 of us will be slogging the length of Vietnam, from Hanoi to HCMC on measely road bikes, covering a total of 2000km. We will be crossing rice paddies, mountains and the central highlands not to mention that this will all be taking place at the hottest time of the year. Considering my lack of fitness and slothlike persona, this is a pretty big deal. Many of you will be aware of my slight clumsy tendencies and bad track record with bicycles so, although it will be an incredible experience, this is not going to be an easy ride...

Have a look at the route from last year if you don't believe me!

You may be wondering why I am doing such a ridiculous thing when planes and trains and busses exist. As a group, we aim to raise $30,000 for Vietnamese childrens' charities, which do incredible work for the disadvantaged in Vietnam.

Where your money will be going:

Founded in 1992, SCC is a UK registered charity working exclusively in Vietnam. The vision for SCC is to work towards the elimination of poverty in Vietnam through education. Our mission is:

“SCC enables disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs.”

Education is, we believe, the most lasting and effective way we can help children and their families to escape from the cycle of poverty. It also represents a double investment – an investment in the children but also an investment in the future of Vietnam.

SCC:

·   builds schools and kindergartens where there are none or only the most basic provision.

·   provides scholarships to individual children and young adults.

·   offers vocational training and employment support.

·   targets children with a disability through empowerment and capacity- building of local shelters.

We currently work in Ho Chi Minh City, mainly in the rural fringes such as Can Gio and Cu Chi but also in difficult areas like District 4. In addition SCC works in 5 provinces surrounding HCMC – Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and in the northern provinces of the Mekong Delta, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh.

Our accounts are audited annually by KPMG and are lodged each year with the UK Charity Commission.
