Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi All,

I've been living and teaching in Ho Chi Minh city for around 16 months and soon I'll be leaving, but before my time here is up, in April 2013, I'll be cycling 2000km from Hanoi (Vietnam's capital) to Ho Chi Minh city with 19 other fantastic (albeit a little bit mental) people. Yeah, you heard....CYCLING....ON A BICYCLE.
BUT before you gasp in horror, tell yourselves I'll never make it and close this tab, remember it's for charity!

The H2H ride is an annual charity event organised by expats living in HCMC. The trip takes about one month and each participant is expected to raise at least $750 although I've set my goal at £750. Here's hoping we can beat the whopping $46,000 that was raised last year.

There are three charities that are supported by H2H team; the Saigon Children's Charity, the Children's Initiative and the ILA Community Network (ILACN). These charities help disadvantaged children by provinding them with healthcare and an education.

So please, just click donate now and support a good cause. H2H riders are fully responsible for their own expenses during the trip (food, accomodation, travel..everything) so, while it's impossible to say that every last penny of the money will be going to the charity, a large amount of it will.

Even the smallest donation makes a difference - you have an opportunity to give a child an education, so do it!! Share this page on facebook, get the word around...tell your friends to donate too!

We'll be training over the next few months, visiting the charities and having fundraisers. I'll keep you posted!

Thanks so much

Soph

***INFO ON SAIGON CHILDREN'S CHARITY****

SAIGON CHILDREN’S CHARITY

Founded in 1992, SCC is a UK registered charity working exclusively in Vietnam. The vision for SCC is to work towards the elimination of poverty in Vietnam through education. Our mission is:

“SCC enables disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs.”

Education is, we believe, the most lasting and effective way we can help children and their families to escape from the cycle of poverty. It also represents a double investment – an investment in the children but also an investment in the future of Vietnam.

SCC:

·   builds schools and kindergartens where there are none or only the most basic provision.

·   provides scholarships to individual children and young adults.

·   offers vocational training and employment support.

·   targets children with a disability through empowerment and capacity- building of local shelters.

We currently work in Ho Chi Minh City, mainly in the rural fringes such as Can Gio and Cu Chi but also in difficult areas like District 4. In addition SCC works in 5 provinces surrounding HCMC – Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and in the northern provinces of the Mekong Delta, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh.

Our accounts are audited annually by KPMG and are lodged each year with the UK Charity Commission.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

About the charity
