Story

As many of you know, I decided to improve my overall health & fitness and ran my first marathon in 2012 in support of two cancer charities (where friends, family and colleagues contributed £12,009 in support of Breast Cancer Care and The Prostate Cancer Charity). Much to everyone’s surprise, I have continued my training since April and was fortunate to be selected in October by Macmillan Cancer Support to receive one of their Gold Bond marathon slots. I barely made it around in 2012, so I really want to improve my performance. There is still a lot of work to do over the coming months (and unfortunately for me, in the cold, wet and dark of the UK winter months…)

So, why Macmillan ?

“So we’ve had your test results back from the lab, and we’ve sat down my team and I, and reviewed them…”

“and I am sorry to tell you that it’s not good news – it is cancer….”

Today 889 people will receive this news in the UK. No one should have to face this alone – with your support, no one will….

The number of people with cancer is growing every day. As hard as it is to believe, a staggering one in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. Macmillan Cancer Support wants to reach and improve the lives of every one of those people

Macmillan provides practical, medical and financial support and pushes for better cancer care. For many people affected by cancer, Macmillan nurses are a valued and trusted source of expert information, advice and support - free of charge. As of December 2011, there were 3,707 Macmillan nurse posts across the UK, both in hospitals and in the community.

We are the Nurses helping you through Treatment.
The Experts on the end of the phone.
The Campaigners pushing for better cancer care.
The Fundraisers who make it all possible…

Together, We are Macmillan Cancer Support.

Please join me in supporting this very worthwhile charity – I have set a target of £4,590 - the cost for funding 5 working weeks for a Macmillan Nurse - which I am confident of achieving the support of friends, family and colleagues. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. The donations are transferred to the charity every week, so don’t delay your contributions.

So please, dig deep and donate now.
