We improve education and early intervention to help children with Down syndrome

Story

Hi, thank you for taking the time to visit my page.

In January I am going to attempt to climb Kilimanjaro with friends Julie, Bev and Julia, this will be the most challenging thing I have ever done and I would love to also raise some money for Down's Syndrome Charity DSE International.

The climb: We are going to attempt to climb Kilimanaro which is Africa's tallest mountain (5,895 m). The route we are taking will take us 6 days of trekking and camping at high altitude. This will be a massive challenge as I really am a total wimp and have never done anything like this before. We are doing everything we can to prepare for the trip and have even taken up jogging and yoga breathing exercises.

The charity: As many of you are aware, our youngest son Jimmy has Downs Syndrome. DSE have provided invaluable support to help Jimmy to reach his full potential. We have used DSE resources to teach Jimmy early reasoning skills since he was a few months old and they are now being used with Jimmy in school to help him with communication, reading and maths skills.

All of the children I have met with Down's Syndrome are wonderful. Jimmy is a very special little boy and he brings a bit of sunshine into the lives of everyone he meets. I think he deserves to reach his potential and to have the most fullfilling life he can have.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. All money raised will go directly to the charity, any costs for the trip have been funded by ourselves
