Well, that's it!! I've finally done it, successfully completing yesterday's race in 4 hours 22 minutes!

It was a truly wonderful day and a fantastic experience, despite the unexpectedly warm weather! The atmosphere within the race was amazing and the support from the crowd over all of the 26 miles was just magnificent, an incredibly uplifting day.

I am delighted not only to have raised so much money for the Alzheimers Society but also to have helped to increase people's awareness of this devastating condition.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way both with your generous donations to the charity and also with your kind, encouraging messages. I can honestly say that I would not have managed it without you !

Just over two years ago, my father was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease and, as this has progressed, the impact upon my mother and the rest of our family has been dramatic as we seek to care and support him as best we can.

Throughout this time, the Alzheimers Society have provided support for the family and have helped us enormously in coming to terms with the implications of this dreadful disease. The charity also does a huge amount of work to improve people's understanding and awareness of the condition which effects a growing number of individuals within our society.

I have decided to run the London Marathon 2013 to show my support for the charity, as a sign of respect for both my father and my mother and to recognise the courage which they have shown and continue to show in the face of the ever increasing diffculties with which they have to cope.

At the same time, as I will turn 50 at the start of 2013, the run will provide me with a significant and timely personal challenge of my own and one which I hope I can tackle with a similar level of determination and commitment.
