Approximately 16 years after stupidly getting involved in the NYC marathon and 15½ years at the finish line declaring that, and I quote…….“I would never take part in another marathon…….that was my first and last……..blah, blah, blah”, age / senility has got the better of me and I believe that statement was a bit hasty, so I will in fact be taking part in the Edinburgh marathon on the 26th May 2013 (the EMF for short)!!!!!

 

Yes indeed, ‘Run fat boy Run!’……..so as most of you may know I am not what you might think of as a natural runner, I am quite weighty, in fact I am 17½ Stone so this will be no mean feat to complete the 26.2 miles that I have tasked myself to do and I am not expecting any record times…….finish line is my only goal! 

So as I have been painfully pounding the streets in the wee-small hours for the past couple of months, lumbering and dragging all of this weight around (and not at a very fast pace), you may ask what for?? Well in order to raise much needed funds for a very worthy charity – Macmillan Cancer Support.

Statistically one in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest fight most of us will ever face, by sponsoring me & making a donation to Macmillan you will be helping support people and their families living with cancer. I am looking to raise at least £500 and would love your support in doing this, it would be even better if I could double this as £951 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week (£15 could pay for 32 copies of The cancer guide, £100 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for four hours & £1,474 could operate Macmillan’s phone service for 2 hours - enough time to answer 54 calls and emails from people who need emotional, practical or financial support)
