Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For the majority of people who've grown up consuming Western culture over the past thirty years, armpit hair is more than likely something you find weird and disgusting on women. If asked 'why', you probably won't know: it's just gross. If you're a woman it's something that you'll probably have got 'seen to' ever since those pesky little hairs started appearing at the age of 12. Maybe you don't even know what you look like with armpit hair!

I'm the same. I am not used to seeing either myself or others with hair anywhere other than their head. Going out into the sun with a vest top and hairy pits seems like a huge challenge. I'm afraid that people will think that it's unnatural... which is strange, because this is actually how women are supposed to look...but because I don't want to attract any negative attention I get it all waxed off.

Well it's not so easy for people with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), some of whom suffer from hursitism as a side-effect of a condition that can also lead to infertility, weight-gain and acne.

Some inspirational ladies that I know have started 'Armpits 4 August' (the 'female Movember') to raise awareness for this condition and simultaneously tackle the way in which we look at womens bodies. To help the cause I have decided to pledge my pits for the month of August and let the bumfluff grow under my arms for the whole time. Coping with the weird looks and disgusted comments is all part of the challenge!
