Story

For the month of August, I'll not be shaving (or otherwise removing) my armpit hair!
I am doing this as a sponsored event to raise money for women with polycystic ovary syndrome, as one of the many side effects of this condition is excessive hair growth, so it's a sign of solidarity as I do have several friends with PCOS. I also feel that, since men are naturally hairier than women, there is an unfair amount of pressure: on the least hairy gender to remove the most body hair! So for me, it's also about embracing my inner feminist and showing people that having a feminine face and a hairy armpit can, potentially, fit together - and that it's pretty old fashioned and ridiculous to expect otherwise.
I've never made it as long as a month before, so it's a bit of a personal challenge on my part, and any support would be most appreciated.

About the charity

Verity is a self help group set up in 1997 to help women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The charity is completely self funded and is the only national charity for women with PCOS. PCOS affects millions of women in the UK and worldwide (approximately 5-10 per cent) .
