Story

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately I have picked up an injury, suspected shin splints and today (14/09/2012) is 3 weeks exactly since I last managed to run.  It is looking very doubtful I will be able to take part in the run in October.  However if you still wish to donate to this worthy cause, a work colleague and friend Mark Ferguson has very kindly offered to run on my behalf.  Thankyou for your support so far and apologies it looks as if I am out of the running.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Neuro Myelitis Optica is an autoimmune condition characterised by relapses (attacks) of the optic nerves (optic neuritis) and spinal cord (transverse myelitis).

I myself was diagnosed with Neuro Myelitis Optica 5 years ago and know just how disabling the condition can be, during several attacks I lost vision in both eyes and was paralysed from the waist down.

Thankfully I have been in good health following my diagnosis and responded well to one of the few treatment options available.

This will be my first run of any distance let alone a half marathon. I am raising money for two charities that do great work to both treat and support patients and their families as well as carry out research into the rare conditions they suffer from.

Hopefully through the good work this organisation undertakes, awareness, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis will all improve over time.

If you can donate to spur me on in this personal challenge I am sure it will give me the motivation I need to train for and complete it. God knows I need all the help I can get!

Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 28%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too. That means more money goes to the charities, faster, with JustGiving.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
