Story

Thank You for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In Memory of Alison Cahill.

We are Andrew Marchant and Sarah Cahill – and we are taking part in the 2013 Macmillan 4x4 Challenge. Despite saying last time that we were going to sit back and enjoy the event, it seems Sarah is just a bit competitive. As in 3rd place overall competitive! (For the record, that's two 3rds and one 10th place for Andrew, one 3rd for Sarah.) We work well as a team and our efforts will make good press for any prospective sponsor. Like to see our vehicle covered in your logos, in return for a decent wad of cash for Macmillan? If so get in touch!

So this year we will be trying our best, the top spot is only a few points away. But competing is not the main reason for our entry. It is a positive way for us to remember Sarah’s mum Alison, who was lost to cancer many years ago – and do something to help those finding themselves in a similar situation. Sarah has first hand experience of the invaluable support from Macmillan, and as such there cannot be a cause closer to our hearts.

We all know people whose lives have been dramatically altered by this dreadful disease. Macmillan are actively making life better for those affected – please help us to support them. Every penny you donate goes straight to Macmillan – we are responsible for all of our own costs, including entry, food, fuel and equipment.

The Mac 4x4 (mac4x4.co.uk) is a navigational and observational exercise, with stages set both on and off road. But this is no timed speed rally – we will be spending 3 days together in a Land Rover, attempting to answer clues based on what can be seen around us, while making sure at all times we are going the right way! The challenges thrown at us will be new and novel – we know only to expect the unexpected…

Our vehicle is a 1994 Discovery – over 140k miles on the clock but still going strong. It’s an automatic so Sarah can drive if need be, but we expect Andrew to do most of the driving. To avoid the “pleasures” of camping in March, we will be sleeping inside the vehicle - which has beds fitted internally making it a basic camper.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Macmillan and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
