Story

Organised and run by members of The Motcomb Street Traders Association, the Motcomb Street Party now regularly attracts over 5,000 visitors and has proved to be the one of the most popular events in the local summer diary.

Wednesday 27th June 2012 will be our 25th Anniversary. It’s incredible that our annual Motcomb Street Party has been “going” for that length of time!

Every year it just gets better and better. In the last 25 years we’ve given over £1 million to the various charities that we’ve supported. The tremendous public support of our event has made that possible and the Street Party Committee and Charities are eternally grateful for that support. So a huge thank you!

By popular demand, the two charities we will be supporting this year are The Household Cavalry Foundation & The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Monies raised for The Household Cavalry Foundation is to help the wounded soldiers and their families and also the horses – their care not only while they are actively serving in The Cavalry but also their care once they retire from their “duties”. No soldier or horse is ever forgotten by The Household Cavalry.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. As I think everyone knows, our aim is to fund a room at King’s Hospital in their new Cystic Fibrosis wing. With the money we gave last year plus this year’s money we would hope to be able to do that. Cystic Fibrosis & King’s Hospital have said they want to put up a plaque in recognition of our tremendous support – which is fabulous. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust does tremendous work. Currently the life expectancy of someone with CF is around 38 years old. Not too long ago some wouldn’t live much past birth or at the most 2 years old. So incredible progress has been made but there’s still a lot more that can be done. Cross infection is life threatening to anyone with CF which is why all hospitals need (and must have) a special CF wing. King’s hospital is one of the hospitals that don’t have a CF wing and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is working exceptionally hard to fund the new wing that’s currently being built there.

Please do email me if you’d like to become a sponsor, patron or donor to this year’s party.
Best Wishes
