We provide children's hospice care to children and families across Sussex

Story

On Easter Sunday, 8 April, Lianne, Jenna and Sam will be taking part in the annual Pillars to Plough Sponsored Walk.

The event is a 20 mile walk from The A23 Pillars in Brighton to The Plough Inn in Crawley. It's a sponsored event and the proceeds of this will be shared between The Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre and The Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice in Arundel. These are both really great local charities (see below)  that need a lot of support. Every penny of your sponsorship will be much appreciated by the 3 of us but most of all by the charities.

So please dig deep everyone no matter how much it is, a little can go a long way.

About the Charities we are supporting –

The Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre is an independent cancer support centre based at Crawley Hospital. They opened in January 2004, formerly known as the cancer self-help group Crawley Cancer Contact, they were granted charitable status in 1992.

The Olive Tree provides a drop-in centre, complementary therapies, counselling, information and support for cancer patients and their carers and families.

Chestnut Tree House is the only children's hospice in Sussex, they care for children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses from all over the county.

Completed in 2003, the hospice provides a 'home from home' environment with 10 children's bedrooms plus eight family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool.

Chestnut Tree House offers support for the whole family including psychological support, care in bereavement therapy, end of life and respite care and sibling support.

The hospice costs £2.5 million per year to run. Families are never charged for their care and less than 9p in every pound is funded by the government, so we rely heavily on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex.

About the charity

Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South East Hampshire, caring for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age every year, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes.
