Story

Sweet, my hair was finally long enough to cut off! I've been growing it since August 2011 - when it was super short - all in order to have 7 inches chopped off to be made into a real hair wig for kids.

I'd been postponing the cut as it wasn't quite long enough.  Plus I had my graduation the other week and Mum thought long hair would be nicer.

Anyway, I had it cut on Sat, Dec 8th. So if you'd like to donate there's still time!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The back story!

By the way here's my little story of why I got involved!

"Huh... your hair’s kinda long and normal coloured"

A statement I'm going to hear a lot more of over the coming months; as I grow and keep my hair colour natural for 1 year. This is in preparation for having at least 7 inches chopped off to make a real hair wig for young girls who've lost their hair through illness and/or treatment.

So what inspired this little personal challenge?!

Well... last summer there was a letter in the local newspaper asking for drivers of pink cars to get in touch with the Pink Car Rally 2011. Intrigued I looked up the Rally and the associated charity; The Little Princess Trust. Curiosity satisfied, I clicked off the page; it was another great charity, raising money for another great cause.

However, over the following weeks the idea of donating my hair, and raising money to get a wig made, kept popping into my mind.  I read more about The Little Princess Trust and the 2012 Pink Car Rally Sponsored Grow & Cut. There was just something different about it. Maybe because it is a challenge that my friends would find amusing to see me attempt; or the uniquely personal nature of the donation; or perhaps it was the knowledge that it would be hard to mis-spend hair!

Still undecided I added yet another shade of purple hair dye to my selection of pinks, blues and reds; all primed for my next spontaneous hairstyle change. But whatever the motivation, the hair dye was left un-opened, and after some rough calculations, yes it was possible for my very short hair to grow to the necessary length... just! So aside from the odd trim, to keep the split ends and mullet at bay, the hair has been growing (unsponsored) since August and I’ve re-discovered my natural hair colour, last seen in 1996!
