Story

Hey guys!

As most of you should know, I'm out in South Africa working as a volunteer in the township Nomzamo. Whilst being here I have signed up to a charity challenge in order to change two of the current buildings at the orphanage in Ikhaylathemba in to Grade R classrooms in order to keep the village sustainability program running.

From working in the community, it's easy to see that no-one deserves anything more than these kids, they are such bright, happy and kind-spirited children and by raising money for them to be able to continue their education is one of the most amazing things they could recieve. The money will also be going towards purchasing a new container classroom at the Hope Centre in the Westlake Community also.

So to give a break down, this is how the challenge is going to run:

On November 11th-16th GVI Cape Town are having their biggest Charity Challenge yet! This amazing challenge is inspired by the environmental aims of the 350.org (www.350.org) campaign to raise awareness about carbon emissions and climate change. With that in mind, the idea is to cover a seemingly daunting 350km, visiting 5 of the 'must-sees' the Western Cape has to offer, in only 5 days - without any motorised transport! Yes, you heard correctly. Exactly how may include a gruelling combination of cycling, running, hiking, kayaking, and sailing.

Here is my 5 day schedule:

Friday 11th Nov - Day -1: Team travel to start point at Cape Agulhas

Saturday 12th Nov - Day 1: Cape Agulhas to Hermanus, 110km.

Sunday 13th Nov - Day 2: Hermanus to Gordon's Bay, 82km.

Monday 14th Nov - Day 3: Gordon's Bay to Fish Hoek, 55km.

Tuesday 15th Nov - Day 4: Fish Hoek to Cape Point return, 68km.

Wednesday 16th - Day 5: Fish Hoek to Kirstenbosch then up Table Mountain, 30km. In addition to those taking part in the full challenge we are hoping to encourage other volunteers and staff to fundraise and take part in this final stage.

Having not sailed since I was a child, and not being in a kayak ever, its fair to say it's definitely a challenge. And with only 3 weeks to go, it's going to get tough, but well worth the blood, sweat and tears to make a difference to the future of these amazing children.

I will keep you all updated about my strenuous training regime and post the odd photo to prove my dedication! Any donations are much appreciated and will help make me reach the 750 pound target!

All my love,

Ebonnie
