On The 26th of February 2012 I will embark on a very big challenge, to climb Kilimanjaro, for Alzheimer's Society Tesco Charity of the year.

My Grandad has Alzheimer's and it is one of the most distressing diseases I have ever seen, affecting not only the person who has it but also the whole family. Physically the chemistry and structure of the brain changes, leading to the death of brain cells. This leads to loss of memory, changes in personality, and a decline in the ability to talk, read and write.

I know lots of friends of friends, who struggle with this very underfunded disease.

Unfortunately the moment there is no cure: when you are diagnosed with dementia, you will die with the disease. However with your help they will push forward, so that they can transform the future for people with dementia.

£20 could buy crucial laboratory equipment for a dementia researcher. And £50 could fund a whole day of PhD researcher's work - Work that could one day lead to a cure.

The difference your support

makes

Through our Charity of the Year

partnership Tesco will fund two

dementia scientists to conduct vital

research into dementia and increase

our understanding of potential life-

changing treatments. Tesco are also

funding a research project to test

existing drugs that could be used to

treat dementia and establish an

inexpensive drug treatment.

Recruitment for dementia scientists

has now begun, thanks to the support of people like you. Applications for the positions

have been received and interviews will begin in February.  There has also been incredible

progress on the drug trials. Six drugs have been selected for further investigation

following computer screening. These are now going through critical review to decide

which will be selected for full clinical trials. These new drug treatments will allow people

with dementia to live longer and more fulfilling lives. You can find out more by visiting

alzheimers-tesco.org.uk/our-partnership

It is also easier to donate to this great charity by text, its by Vodafone and completely free. Text: CVCV66 £10 To: 70070 .For every £1 raised for Alzheimer's this year, Tesco will match it.
