Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This is a cause dear to the hearts of both myself and my partner David as we have both lost family members to this horrible condition. Money is desperately needed to help fund research into ways of controlling and slowing the onset of the debilitating symptoms that sufferers of this disease demonstrate, and to provide help, advice and respite facilities for the family and carers of sufferers.
To this end, I along with 34 other Tesco employees, will be attempting a sponsored trek in February 2012 to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 5895 mtrs (19341 ft) is the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Although it is located only 3 degrees south of the equator, temperatures at the summit regularly drop below -15 degrees Celsius, which combined with the depleted oxygen in the rarefied air at these altitudes, makes it an extreme physical challenge for all involved.
I have organised several other fund-raising events such as raffles and prize-draws to cover the costs involved in my taking part in this event, so please be assured that all money donated here (less the small amount JustGiving require for administration) will go directly towards helping these 2 Alzheimers charities.
