I am running the Birmingham Half Marathon in October with a team of alumni, staff and students from the University of Birmingham. We are raising money for the University's cancer research - one of the leading UK centres that are leading the way in the fight against this devastating disease.

Cancer researchers at the University have:

Reduced early diagnosed breast cancer mortality rates by 30%

Found ways of diagnosing childhood cancers without invasive procedures

Run a drug trial, which could reduce the risk of bladder cancer recurring by a third

Significantly increased the survivability of prostate cancer
