We provide care and support to those affected by life-limiting illness

Story

We are Jessica, Matthew, Michelle, Andrea and Dave and we are going to be taking part in 2 x 3 Peak Challenges-

On 25th June we will be walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in 12 hours.

On 8th July we will be walking the National 3 Peaks in 24 hours.

We have chosen to raise money for 2 charities close to our hearts. The money raised will be split between Blythe House Hospice and Bethel Baptist Church.

Firstly a bit about Blythe House:

Jessica, Matthew and Dave are friends with Christabel, who they met at Post-Natal Classes. Christabel is a cancer patient benefiting from the services offered by Blythe House. Christabel, 27, has a partner Darren and a 3 year old daughter Jasmin – she has Hodgkins Lymphoma with 2 tumours, 1 in her neck and 1 in her chest. She was diagnosed in January 2010. She has since undergone 2 chemotherapy regimes and taken part in a clinical trial for a drug in phase III clinical trials (I think). Unfortunately no treatment has been successful. Christabel's cancer has now been diagnosed as terminal with a prognosis of 6-12months which she intends to spend enjoying time with her family.

Christabel says of Blythe House:

"It would be great if you could help Blythe House Hospice out in Chapel En Le Frith They have helped me a great deal, i.e. how to cope with my cancer and my feelings towards it. I go every Tuesday for REIKI, counseling and a chat and Thursdays for acupuncture. Darren goes for counseling and therapies when he can fit it in. They have a very friendly atmosphere, which is very caring and Jasmin likes to pop in because they make a big fuss over her."

Secondly, Bethel Baptist Church:

Jessica, Matthew, Michelle and Andrea are members of the Worship Group at Bethel. The Church is currently undertaking a building project to enable it to open up the building further to its wider community- fixing the leaking roof and extending and improving the lounge areas.

Chris Whiteley (Minister) says of Bethel:

"Bethel is a lively place with a vision to share the love of Christ with our community. Our motto is "Looking up, reaching out" and it holds the purpose of our church to be worshipping God and working in our community. The building we use is very much a part of that vision. We have a number of community groups who make use of our premises, and we are hoping to open up our facilities for more opportunities to care for the people around us. Firstly, though, we must make sure our building is fit for the work we want to do. The building of a second storey on our lounge will give us two extra meeting rooms and enable us to refurbish exisiting facilities like the kitchen to bring it up to proper catering standards. Enhancing the entrance to our Church will enable everyone to access all the areas of our building. We are excited by the prospect that this new development will bring to us and we hope you can join us in this vision by sponsoring your friends who are supporting us."
