Story
We are running the Manchester Marathon to raise money for The Christie Charity in memory of several people in our lives who were helped so greatly by The Christie.
Max’s grandpa Shimon Marks was at The Christie with myeloid leukaemia until he sadly passed on 29th March 2003.
Also in memory of Robert Broude who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was only 17 years old. He died after a 2 ½ year battle at the age of 19 in 2004.
Rob was treated at the Young Oncology Unit (YOU) at The Christie in Manchester - the YOU is a dedicated unit for 16-24 year olds who have to deal with cancer and related illnesses.
In May 2020 Robert's dad Pete sadly passed away. For the past 16 years, family and friends have been fundraising for the YOU - with the total currently just over £495k. It was Pete's hope that we would eventually hit the £500k mark.
