We provide practical & emotional support to children fighting cancer in Yorkshire

Story

The Event –
This legendary challenge set in the Yorkshire Dales is not for the feint
hearted! 40km long and with an ascent of three mountains totally over 1500m (that's higher than Ben Nevis!) this circular route is based from Horton in Ribblesdale. Just to add a twist to this classic challenge, we will be undertaking the event through the night! First  ascent Penyghent in time for sunset, then cross Horton Moor to reach Ribblehead. Go past the famous viaduct to push on up Whernside. A steep descent to Chapel le Dale is followed by a slog over the moor, and a leg  aching, lung busting climb to the top of Ingleborough. After a steep descent of Swine Tail, the route then crosses Simon Fell and the limestone pavement at Sulber Nick to return to Horton. The challenge is to finish in under 12 hours, although we will be happy just to reach the  end and a well earned breakfast!

The Charity – Candlelighters, bringing light and hope to families of children suffering with cancer.

Founded in 1976 by families and medical staff, Candlelighters continues to help support children with cancer and their families, through funding research, family holidays, grants, essential additional services within the hospital and vital support for all the family members. Now more than 40 years into their journey, their aim today is the same as it has always been - to bring support and hope to ordinary families who are facing extraordinary circumstances.

The Story  –

The  Gallimore’s are such a family. When George, aged just 2½, was diagnosed with Leukaemia life for them fell apart. Subjected to daily
chemotherapy  and medication every 4 hours, he has led a far from normal life, in fact he can only remember being ill and spending time in hospital. For Mark & Helen, they were torn daily between supporting George and their other children, as well as attenpt to hold down jobs and deal with the normal pressures of family life. Amazingly in November 2016 George won his fight when he was finally given the all clear, although he will always need regular checkups and medication to ensure he remains this way. From the diagnosis and throughout his illness, little George and his family have been supported by
Candlelighters every step of the way – without them life would have been impossible. Mark and Helen, and their 4 children, now spend much of their time giving back to this wonderful charity. Team George is made up of their friends who simply wish to help them with their support of Candlelighters by raising some much needed funds for this special charity.
