My story.....

I'm cycling 11 loops of 3 hills which are very local to me, Bell Lane, Strickens Lane & Long Lane, they run parallel to each other and 1 loop is 10 miles, the total ascent is 11,000ft.

Since being diagnosed with Stage 3 Prostate Cancer back in May of 2013 I have used the services and experienced the care of Macmillan on numerous occasions. The literature they produce on explaining the many questions those suffering from the disease are likely to ask, or indeed to inform friends and family are excellent.

Although I remained strong and positive from the outset of my diagnosis, I had a ‘wobble’ around the end of 2017 when it appeared my Cancer was on the ‘move’. I had a chat with the Macmillan volunteer within the Rosemere Centre at The Royal Preston Hospital which was a great help, very caring and supportive. They are always available to help when needed.

My treatment is on-going, but I am currently reasonably fit and active and I’m dedicated to fundraising for the various bodies that have helped me on my journey down the long and winding Cancer road, one of these is of course Macmillan.

Strickens Lane – a nod to Macmillan Cancer Support

Aptly named for all those stricken with cancer and the invaluable help and support that the team at Macmillan provide. They are dedicated to helping others. So, when I am riding up this hill, my motivation and thoughts will be with those who’ve been stricken by cancer along with their family and friends who can also be supported by the Macmillan Team.
