Story

As most of you will know, running really isn't my thing. In fact, I couldn't find a single photo of me exercising, even in all my Facebook photos going back years (hence this LOVELY replacement).

BUT I've decided to take on the challenge of The Mudnificent 7 with Penny Appeal; a 7km mud run and obstacle course which is genuinely scary to me. (For context, the other day I ran 2km at the gym and tbh that felt pretty damn far to me... better start training 😬)

Even though I am really, genuinely scared for this, I'm going to go for it. Because the fear I feel is really nothing; nothing at all compared to the terror that almost 1 million Rohingya refugees felt when they were persecuted, terrorised and forced to leave their homeland of Myanmar. Nothing compared to the creeping fear of a mother in Yemen, who knows she can't feed her child (80% of the Yemeni population, who need humanitarian aid). Nope, my fear is nothing at all.

So, I'm doing this 7km run and obstacle course to raise money for Penny Appeal's Emergency Response, to help keep people in genuinely scary situations, safe.

Penny Appeal's teams are currently providing Emergency Response and support in:

  • Syria, where 60% of hospitals are closed and 70% of all people need urgent humanitarian aid.
  • Lebanon and Turkey, where Syrian refugees are battling to survive.
  • Yemen, which is experiencing the worst famine the world has seen in this century.
  • Palestine, including Gaza, where people are living amongst terrifying conflict.
  • Bangladesh, where Rohingyan refugees who have fled persecution need urgent support.
  • Indonesia, helping re-build homes and lives after a powerful earthquake hit Lombok.
  • Areas affected by the famine in East Africa, such as Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya.
  • Mozambique and Malawi, where 1.8 million people have been devastated by Cylone Idai.
Penny Appeal have saved and protected 1.7 million lives through their Emergency Response in the last 10 years. But with wars waging, conflicts ongoing and the number of natural disasters increasing every year due to climate change, there is still a lot of work to be done.

I would be so grateful if you could sponsor me to do this - it really will make a big difference to people experiencing some of the scariest times of their lives. Thank you 🧡
