Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!

On October 1st, I will embark on an epic expedition across Northern Kenya to raise funds and awareness in support of Conservation International's remarkable initiatives in Kenya. I will be joining a group of 17 self-funded women from around the world and we will trek 100 KM across the remote ‘Matthews Range’ mountains - a challenging trail of no small feat!

The team is coming together under the banner of ‘HER Planet Earth’,  a non-profit organization dedicated to gender equality and environmental conservation. We are partnering with Conservation International, a charity that works to protect nature for the benefit of humanity and our planet’s future.

Conservation International has several initiatives in Kenya and the funds we raise will go to support projects specifically focusing on both gender equality and conservation. Some of these include:

The Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, the first female owned and operated elephant sanctuary in Kenya.  The sanctuary also has established a mobile anti-poaching team.

Lewa Wildlife conservancy, another female led conservatory, which has become an exemplar success for preserving Rhinos the region.

I believe that by empowering local communities, in particular women, we can implement peace & security programs and develop sustainable organizations linked to conservation.

Funds raised by this page will go towards scholarships provided by the conservancies, where girls and women can access education and then support their families while contributing to Kenya's preservation.

Below are some examples of what your donation can support:

·A female ranger's salary for a month - $241

·A female elephant keeper's salary for a month - $230

·A girl's school bursary for a month - $83

·The costs associated with taking care of an orphaned elephant for a month- $1667

·Equipping solar panels for an outpost - $10,000

·Establishment of a new community conservancy - $250,000

Because each participant in the expedition (from Her Planet Earth) is 100% self-funded, every dollar donated in support of our mission counts towards empowering local women who will work towards preserving northern Kenya's beautiful land and species.

Thank you for your support!

Much love,

Veronica

About the charity

We know that human beings are totally dependent on nature — and that by saving nature, we’re saving ourselves. To that end, CI is helping to build a healthier, more prosperous and more productive planet. We do this through science, policy, and partnerships with countries, communities and companies. Over the years, CI has helped support 1,200 protected areas and interventions across 77 countries, safeguarding more than 601 million hectares of land, marine and coastal areas. Our work is moving entire societies toward a healthier, more sustainable development path — so that we don’t use up today what we’re going to need tomorrow. At CI, we don’t focus on one sector or one issue. And we’re not interested in short-term fixes. Instead, building upon a foundation of science, partnership and field work, we find global solutions to global problems. We measure success in human terms. Our ultimate goal is to protect the most fundamental things that nature provides to all of us: our food, our fresh water, our livelihoods and a stable climate. Nature doesn’t need people - people need nature.
