Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of my friends, both civilian and military and family know, Sue and I lost Simon, our only child at the age of 25 in 2009.  Simon was a PTI Corporal in the Royal Air Force and died of a virus whilst on home on leave from serving with the Peace Keeping Forces in Bosnia.  Every year since we lost Simon, myself, my wife, Sue and a group of amazing friends and family have tried to achieve a challenge in order to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund and have so far raised in excess of £50,000.  Our aim is to keep going until we reach the magical figure of £100,000 and this year's Challenge is no less arduous than previous years, so please continue reading.

For 2019 we are taking 3 Teams of 10, made up of both military and civilian friends of Simons to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.  The route covers 24 miles (38.6km) and includes 1585m (5,200ft) of ascent.  The peaks we will walk are Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).  Everyone is training really hard and giving up a lot of their spare time to train and assist both Sue and I in the organisation and fund raising for this event.

Please, if you have a few coppers to spare, the Royal Air Force desperately needs funding.  They are not only there to help and support those who have lost loved ones but are there for the members and families of serving Royal Air Force personnel, whether it is monetary or physical support.  Sue and I have experienced first hand the amazing work that this Charity does for the Royal Air Force "Family" and would certainly not be where we are today without their support and assistance.

I know that times are very hard at the moment, especially in these uncertain times but for the Royal Air Force to continue to help those in need, they require funding through charity donations such as yours.

This is my JustGiving Page but it is linked to the Team Page of Simon's Army Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge - here is the link: www.justgiving.com/companyteams/simonsarmyyorkshirethreepeakschallenge and if you get the opportunity, take a look at that page also and read the amazing tributes to our son that have been written by family and friends - he was an amazing young man taken far too soon but has left a huge legacy behind for me and his mum to uphold.

Many thanks for your donation and, if you are unable to donate, then many thanks for taking the time to read this story.
