Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Elsa was born in 2014 with a condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, or SMA, which meant that her muscles did not work correctly. Unfortunately, this meant that her breathing was affected and she required constant ventilation using breathing equipment.

Elsa spent nearly 5 weeks at Sheffield Children's hospital in critical care trying to recover from pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung. Due to the round the clock care and treatment, it was impossible to sleep by her side like you can on the wards at Sheffield Children's Hospital, as the doctors and nurses need immediate access at all times.

Fortunately there are two sets of accommodation for families in that scenario, Treetops House and Magnolia House, both run by The Sick Children's Trust. We were accommodated in both during our stay, 2 weeks in Treetops and 3 weeks in Magnolia House. This accommodation is vital to allow families to remain near their child at all times, whilst still taking care of themselves by getting valuable sleep and being able to cook decent meals. For families who live far away from Sheffield, this can mean a great deal.

The accommodation is free and provides a bedroom, bathrooms (some en-suite), lounge area with a TV and DVD player, kitchen with fridges, freezers and cooking facilities, dining area with all cutlery and crockery, laundry and, most importantly, 24 hour access to the critical care unit. The only things we had to pay for was our food.

It costs around £30 per family per night to keep the accommodation running, however The Sick Children's Trust also accepts donations of items that they need, rather than the money to buy them.

Between Elsa's day of admission on March 16th through to the day of us departing for Bluebell Wood on April 17th, we would like you to donate any of the items listed at the bottom of this page either to Charlotte or Myself, and we will arrange for it to be delivered in bulk on Thursday 18th April.

If you would like to donate some supplies but do not live local, then we can accept a cash donation (not through this site, please speak to Charlotte or myself about how to send the money) where we will use the money to purchase something off of the list and we will then deliver it on your behalf.

This page has been created for anyone not local who would like to donate money directly to The Sick Children's Trust, rather than consumables. Please only donate through this site if you do not plan on donating consumables, as money donated here goes direct to The Sick Children's Trust.

Important: Please ensure that if a product brand has been requested, you buy that exact brand. This is due to health and safety as the products have been tested to ensure they do clean properly and not every product can be tested. Remember that the families who stay here are around extremely poorly children all the time so cleanliness is paramount.
