Story
Hey guys :),
The Epilepsy Society is a truly wonderful charity that does mind-blowing work - pun unintended. Epilepsy is a condition that, as you all know, has affected me personally. However it has also affected more people in my life than I can count. Since being diagnosed in 2012 all sorts of people have come out of the woodwork as fellow sufferers - it was quite astonishing. Every single one of those people have a long, complicated story of diagnosis and treatment to tell; and an unacceptably vast number remain unable to control their seizures completely.
If there's anything that I've learnt in the past 7 years, it's that almost everyone is affected by this condition in some way - if not directly then as a partner/friend/family member. Hollywood occasionally displays a stereotypical tonic-clonic seizure, but popular culture neglects the spectrum of seizures, let alone the myriad of knock-on affects that sufferers deal with: from difficulties carrying out simple day-to-day tasks, to mental-health and employment problems. Furthermore, the challenging and mysterious nature of neurology makes charity work and research no less that essential in order to achieve so much as a diagnosis. The Epilepsy Society provides resources for both the research and care required to support people; sufferers and loved ones, pre and post-diagnosis.
I know that without charities like The Epilepsy Society I would not have made it to my final semester of university, and that many people I know would be incapable of living a life that is not defined by their condition.
If you are so inclined, I would be so grateful for any donations. It would mean a lot to me to give something back to the community that has helped me so much. Equally importantly - it would make the long slog all worth it.
Thanks guys. Loads of love,
Perky/Soph x
