We fund life-changing and life-saving work to support cancer patients at The Christie

Story

We would like to personally thank anyone who donates.
Please add your name to the donation.

Sharon and Irv are very close friends of Helena and Pete Broude whose eldest son Robert was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was only 17 years old. He lived with it for nearly 3 years and sadly died at the age of 19 in 2004.

Rob was a patient at the Young Oncology Unit, now known as the Teenage and Young Adult Unit (TYA), at The Christie Hospital in Manchester. The unit treats 16-24 year olds who are dealing with cancer and related illnesses.

After Robert died, a committee was formed to raise money to build a new day unit at the TYA. To date they have raised over £460,000. Part of this has been used to build “Robs Day Unit” in memory of Robert.

All the monies raised have gone towards ensuring the best facilities and equipment, together with ensuring the most up to date medical care is available to treat young people with cancer.

Over the years Sharon and Irv have been an integral part of this fund raising. Sharon has been a part of the ladies committee (YOUcare), helping to raise money, Irv joined mens committee with their infamous nude calendar.

Their involvement and decision to ask for donations in lieu of presents makes their wedding day even more special.
