Story

My name is Thomas Kagezi. In September 2016 I was diagnosed with
prostate cancer.

My diagnosis came as a huge shock. I’m a fit and healthy man -
 a regular cyclist, runner and tri-athlete.  I couldn’t believe I was
living with such a serious disease. I have a wife and two young children and so my thoughts quickly turned to them and I became incredibly worried and distressed about the future. I couldn’t stop thinking about death. ‘Why me? Am I going to die? Will I see my kids get married?’

Thankfully my disease was caught at a stage where it could still
be treated. I have had three types of treatments - brachytherapy, radiotherapy and I am currently receiving twelve weekly hormone therapy injections, which will continue for three years.

I’m doing well thanks to the tremendous support I’ve received
from Prostate Cancer UK. Prostate Cancer UK funds vital research into new treatments, diagnosis and prevention. The charity also provides invaluable support to men and their families through its specialist nurse service.

This year, I am committing myself to do the following challenges
to raise funds to enable Prostate Cancer UK to continue to fund further
research so that the charity can help more men like me.

I will walk 16K in the Leeds March for Men, I will cycle 55 miles in the London to Brighton bike ride, I will run 26.2 miles in the London Marathon, and I will cycle a further 160 miles from London to Amsterdam.

Please donate generously and help me reach my target of £1,500. Every
penny donated will help stop prostate cancer being killer.
