Story

Thanks for visiting our page!

On Saturday 7th October we will be heading down the M1 to Terminal 4 of Heathrow airport and catching Kenya airlines flight KQ101, touching down briefly in Nairobi before catching the small flight to Moshi, or as it's more widely known, the bottom of Mount Kilimanjaro - the tallest free-standing mountain in the world and the only place on the planet where the natural curvature of the earth can be seen.

We'll be climbing from 2800m to 5895m over six days as part of a small but imperfectly formed team of eight.  No bathrooms, no showers, sleeping in tents and oxygen levels low enough to stop 30% of people ever getting to the top are just some of the challenges we will face.  Temperatures range from over 30 degrees down to -20; our water will almost certainly freeze and washing in just a bowl at that temperature will certainly make some body parts more difficult to find!  That's before we ask you not to Google 'Kilimanjaro Insects'...

If you'd like to sponsor us, we're doing the climb for Rainbows Children's Hospice - a Loughborough based charity looking after life-limited children and their families, also providing respite care for parents of terminally ill children; It's a fantastic cause and they're a great bunch of people.

Thanks for your support.

Steve & Mandy.

About the charity

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.
