We fund research to stop prostate cancer killing men

Story

In June, I am taking part in "Football to Amsterdam", a two day, 145-mile pedal pilgrimage to the Dutch capital backed by the English Football League and the League Managers Association in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Just to make my sponsorship request a little more compelling, I have also agreed to cycle to the summit (1,912 metres) of the mighty Mont Ventoux in France, known as "the Beast of Provence" and the undisputed hardest climb in the Tour de France. AND, for crazy good measure, the plan is to cycle up it 3 times in 24 hours! (apparently thus gaining entry to the exclusive Club des Cingles du Mont-Ventoux).

"The Ventoux is a god of Evil, to which sacrifices must be made. It never forgives weakness and extracts an unfair tribute of suffering."

Roland Barthes, French philosopher and cyclist.

During my own personal journey last year, I discovered that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It is also a disease which needlessly kills one man every 45 minutes. This is simply not acceptable but Prostate Cancer UK know that with your help we can turn it around. Time is against us but now is the time to take action, to make this a disease the next generation need not fear.

I am delighted to be supporting this fantastic charity and to be teaming up again with some of most incredible and inspiring people I have ever met.

Thank you for your support. It really counts. Ian
