Story

Now then.  It looks like I'm running a half marathon in 6 weeks.
13.1 miles is 10 miles further than I can run at the moment.  -- Chris

We are both doing the Great North Run in Newcastle on the 10th of September.  Frances will likely finish in some record breaking time and I will end up breaking myself finishing.

Why would anyone decide to run that far?  Not for bloody fun, I tell you. We are running it out of respect for David Greaves and to raise some cash monies for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

If you didn't have the luck and privilege of knowing David Corder Greaves, he struck the world as a charming man, an absolute legend, and a connoisseur of fun with the uncanny ability to ride a bicycle backward while drunk.

MND is a devastating neurodegenerative condition which causes increasing muscle paralysis and a dramatically shortened life expectancy.  This left Dave unable to talk, eat or breathe without the assistance of a ventilator by the end.  This beautiful brave man passed away just 15 months after being diagnosed.

In true Greavesy style, Dave battled MND with true quality and class.  He got married to an incredible woman (after proposing via the medium of kittens), climbed Kilimanjaro, made time for his friends and family, and still managed to pick up some quality Nike Air 90s.

MND is a devasting disease. MND may have stripped Dave of his strapping body, but he had his razor sharp mind and wit until the end.

I've found it very hard to write anything worthwhile as the loss of David is so sad. So, If you want to celebrate the life of Mr Greaves then you too can stick 2Fingers2MND by putting your hand in your pocket.  Your donation will fund research to stop, cure and prevent this brutal illness.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
