Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My aim is to raise £2000 for the inspiring charity Age UK. To do this I am running 12 marathons (26.2 miles each!) in 12 months starting May 2018. I've never ran a complete marathon before, but start with a base level fitness of 6 miles (10k) in just over an hour. I'm looking to complete this challenge with 107 days to train from my base level to marathon runner. I am completing this challenge with two charities in mind, AGE UK and British Heart Foundation, where I have a team page which links both separate Just Giving Pages. Ideally, therefore, I would kindly request that the donations are split as evenly as possible.

Age UK is the country's largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life. Ageing is not an illness, but it can be challenging. Age UK provides services and support at a national and local level to inspire, enable and support older people.

I am undertaking this challenge in memory of my grandmother,Rose Willis, someone who was always there for me and helped raise myself and my younger brother. Age UK helped my grandmother throughout her diagnosis of COPD, a degenerative lung disease which affects the sufferer’s sight as well as respiratory problems, loss of appetite and fatigue. Age UK funded visual aids for my grandmother to use around the house in order for her to remain physical and active and also provided mobility aids and regular meetings with a specialist advisor for both my grandmother and the rest of the family. Sadly, my grandmother passed away on the 20th December 2016 and I am undertaking this marathon challenge in order to honour her memory and legacy and as a thank you for the support which Age UK provided during her illness and beyond.

I will post regular updates about my progress through this page and social media. If you have any questions or additional ideas about sponsorship collaborations, please do not hesitate to contact me.
