Story

Yurt Maze Day with its Yurt Maze for Dave could hardly have been better. The weather was perfect and what seemed like thousands of children spent the day charging round the maze, bouncing on the castle and playing skittles. It was a wonderful
occasion, finished off with a bonfire and three barrels of beer. If you didn’t get a chance to see it, there’s a 50 second tour through the maze on You Tube via: https://youtu.be/RdJMKNp1Fho

Enormous thanks to everyone who made A Yurt Maze for Dave
possible, helping create and dismantle the structure, by serving tea and cake, lending equipment, providing food, drink and book tokens, preparing the field, giving up a front lawn for parking spaces and in countless other ways. Thank you also to everyone who was able to join us on the day bringing the pleasure of your company, and to all who made donations - however large or small.

The fun was tinged with sadness, knowing we were without Dave and Harry, those two beautiful young men. They were with us everywhere, but we missed hearing their laughter and sharing a beer and a joke. Yurt Maze Day was a celebration of their short but full lives and the great love they inspired.

Thanks again to all who helped make such a great day
possible – and for surrounding us with love.

Dave's story:

David Corder Greaves was a hero and a giant personality. He was 6' 7" tall, gained a First in History at Newcastle University and an MA with distinction at Sheffield, was an ultra-distance athlete, a writer, friend to the world, handsome fellow and lovely human being.

Two weeks after his 30th birthday, Dave was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. The course it took was swift and cruel. Within five months he was unable to use his hands, after nine months he couldn't walk and towards the end he was unable to breathe without a ventilator or speak. Throughout he showed courage and grace and was an inspiration to all those privileged to spend time with him. He died seventeen months after diagnosis.

While he could still walk, Dave and Phil climbed most of the way up Kilimanjaro to raise funds the MNDA. The 2Fingers2MND campaign they started has been joined by family and friends and so far almost £60,00 has been donated. There is still much more to be done. Funds are urgently needed.

Please join us for the Yurt Maze on June 24. If you are unable to do so, please donate to MNDA. Any donation, no matter how small, would be hugely appreciated.
