Fundraising for Multiple Sclerosis Society
Story

In April 2017, I was diagnosed with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis. I have suffered from a wide variety of weird symptoms for the last 5 years and it has been a very long, hugely frustrating process to get where I am today.
Receiving this diagnosis has helped me open up about my health, and I hope I can encourage others to do the same! I want others to believe that we do know our own bodies better than anyone else, and if you think you’re not well, then I’m just going to put it out there…you’re probably not! Stop thinking ‘if a doctor won’t listen, then who will?!’ and keep fighting! Talk to your family, your friends, your colleagues and get the help you need. Make the doctor listen!
Many other good things will come from this diagnosis. In June, I start treatment that will help reduce the number of remissions I may face - tablets that would not be available if it wasn’t for charities, like the MS Trust and MS Society, continuously carrying out vital research. And most importantly, I’ve started to get in to some of the things that I’ve wanted to do for years, but always been ‘too busy’ for.
Hence – the Ben Nevis Challenge! 4,000 feet, 10 miles, 7-9 hours. On Saturday, September 2nd 2017, I’ll be doing just that to raise money for the MS Trust and MS Society, two charities that I have already used so much. This is my way of coming to terms with my diagnosis, and sharing my news with the many family and friends that I haven’t got around to telling yet – there’s a lot of you! And I’d love as many of you
as possible to sign up and join me in this challenge/donate and I’ll try my best to make it to the top (and back down).
Lastly, I would just like to thank my personal trainer and my current physio for reminding me that waking up with a numb face one week and double vision the next, isn’t normal. Without them quietly
pushing me to keep fighting for answers, I would have given up months ago and just kept pushing on. Here’s to the next chapter! Here’s to the Ben Nevis Challenge!
