An eternal legacy: a new statue of St Chad
Lichfield Cathedral is one of the oldest places of Christian worship in the country. It was founded as the burial place of the great Anglo-Saxon missionary and the first Bishop of Lichfield, St Chad, to whom the Cathedral is dedicated. The life and ministry of this holy man shaped over a thousand years of history for our cathedral, our city and our diocese.
To mark 1,350 years since St Chad arrived in Lichfield in 669 AD, Lichfield Cathedral has commissioned local sculptor Peter Walker to create a major new public sculpture of our patron saint. The statue of St Chad will be cast in bronze and situated in Dam Street, a lasting monument to this central figure in Lichfield's history.
