Your donations could Light Up Christmas for the hundreds of families like Joey's facing a hospital stay this December.
Joey's mum, Sam, explains:
"Our little Joey was 12 days old when he had emergency surgery. Hours before we had been given the devastating news that he had a brain tumour. Christmas lights flickered around us as the doctors worked to save his life.
"We were told to prepare for the worst. Days before, I had been making Christmas lists, buying presents and organising family fun. Now, it all seemed hopeless The days passed in a blur as we sat with him in Intensive Care, his little snowman pyjamas hidden by tubes and wires.
"Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity were there for us at every turn. The charity's activities gave us a break from our daily reality. Seeing Joey respond to bubbles in baby sensory sessions, and hearing singing and live music was wonderful. It gave us hope.
"Joey is now 11 months old, cancer free and growing stronger every day. Without doubt, the support from the charity made a huge difference to his first months of development, his recovery and our first memories as a family.
"This year, we are supporting Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity's Light Up Christmas appeal, because during the most challenging time of our lives, they stood by our side and brightened our darkest days.
"Our hearts go out to the families who will be in hospital this Christmas, but we know that thanks to the incredible NHS teams and the charity, they wont be alone."
With your support, Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity will arrange for gifts, sparkling lights, decorations, activities and of course lots of treats across the wards and waiting rooms, making sure no one misses out on the magic and joy of Christmas. We rely solely on donations to be able to do this.
How your support could make a difference:
£20 could bring a family together. An ECHC art workshop, play session or film screening in our cosy hospital Hub away from the ward can be the only time families have together this Christmas.
£50 could bring friendships to children who have none. Learning dance moves, playing virtual reality or joining the ECHC youth group will help break down barriers between children and build friendships.
£100 could bring peace of mind. For some families, emergency funding for a change of clothes, a trusted play session for their child while they shower, or simply a listening ear, can give strength to carry on.
