Story

Help us bring festive cheer to our patients and staff at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) this festive season.

The ROH like every other NHS hospital, has had a unprecedented year supporting the coronavirus pandemic. The long-term effects COVID-19 has had on patients and staff is profound and we hope to help support this through our Christmas Appeal this year.

During the Christmas season our dedicated staff will continue to work hard to spread, love, cheer and provide outstanding services to those who visit the Trust, from behind their mask.

This year we are fundraising to solve two ongoing problems that COVID-19 has brought to our attention;

1. Patients Feeling Isolated

Many patients feel isolated from the outside world when staying in hospital which can make patients feel significantly more distressed and worried about their stay with us. We are fundraising to help tackle this issue by helping patients to feel more connected with their loved ones, despite of the COVID visiting restrictions.

With your support, we would like to implement a new entertainment system for patients across the trust. This will offer a distraction to patients through being able to watch their favourite movies, TV shows or read the latest newspaper, as well as offer video and phone call facilities to contact their loved ones from their bedside.

As usual we will be giving patients who are unable to get home to loved ones this festive season with gifts on Christmas Eve.

2. Staff Health & Wellbeing

The emotional impact COVID-19 has had on staff members has been overwhelming. We feel it is only right to help give staff members the enhanced support they need during this time.

Christmas is already a hard time of year for many, but now with COVID restrictions in place it is proving even harder for those who are unable to meet their loved ones. In light of this we will be offering increased counselling and mental health support within the Trust as well as access to a relaxation space for those in crisis.

We will also be providing extra special gifts to all staff members across the hospital to show our thanks for their incredible hard work this year.

How to get involved:

- Festive Dress Day

Whether you are a school, local business or member of the public, anyone can get involved!

Join us by wearing your favourite festive jumper, or outfit, on Friday 11th December 2020!

We simply ask all those taking part to donate a minimum of £1 to our Christmas appeal.

- Tune in to our choir performance

Our choir will be having a star 'social distanced' performance at 12 noon on the 11th December, to spread a little cheer across the hospital. We cant go onto the wards this year, so we we are hoping we will be loud enough for the patients to hear us!

If you can, join us at 12 noon on Friday 11th December 2020 outside our outpatients department. We will also be live streaming on facebook, keep a look out for the link!

- Join our Virtual Challenge!

Help support our Christmas Appeal by taking part in a virtual challenge this December Walk, jog, cycle or run as many miles as you can and raise money whilst doing so.

The beauty of our virtual challenge is that you can take part from anywhere, whether you are walking your dog or jogging around the back garden or riding along your local bike path. The whole family can get involved, more people means more miles remember!

Each week you'll need to upload your evidence to our team and will be rewarded with a virtual badge, once your 4 weeks are up you'll earn your very own Virtual Challenge medal.
