Story
At Challengers we provide a safe and exciting environment for all disabled children to make friends, challenge their impairments and most importantly have fun!
On scheme we emphasise child-led play, allowing the children and young people who attend our scheme to choose what they want to do from a huge range of activities, including outdoor games, messy art, rock climbing or even simply relaxing with a book in our sensory room.
No child is ever turned away from our services, no matter how complex their needs maybe, we will never say no! We also do not set geographical boundaries meaning we make it possible for all disabled children to access adventurous play at one of our schemes. Additionally Challengers provides families and carers vital respite from the demands of caring for a disabled child.
Our Ramadan appeal of £1,700 could provide 100 children to attend our afterschool club at one of our amazing Play or Youth schemes. Afterschool club includes pick-ups from local special needs schools, a yummy dinner and lots of fun and play. This is a great social time for the children who may not attend any other after school activities. Plus after school club allows parents those extra few hours in the day for simple everyday tasks such as finishing a full day of work, taking the dog for a walk, doing the food shopping or supporting their other siblings. All in the knowledge their child is having a lovely time also doing something they enjoy.
Last year Challengers supported over 1,400 families across the South East, who depend on one of our schemes for truly accessible play. Therefore any donation however big or small would be hugely appreciated and go a long way to supporting disabled children and young people in your community. Below is our short film about the impact of our schemes so you can see what do 'in action'.
